irony – saying the opposite of what is

               on a cloudy day.
litotes – understating for effect;
               e.g. not a bad idea
metaphor – comparing through
               implication; e.g. The car is
               a roaring dragon.
personification – giving human qualities
               to nonhumans;
               e.g. The sun smiled.
synecdoche – using part to stand for
               the whole; e.g. ‘Nice set of
               wheels!’ to mean a nice car.
simile – comparing using ‘as’ or ‘like’;
               e.g. That cat is like a dragon.
