Cut and Sort Sentences

Practice: Cut and Sort these Sentences

Note:
1. Do not simply assign these sheets! Walk among the students, making sure that they cut and paste one sentence before cutting another sentence.
2. The students should paste the words and puncutation marks in correct order onto coloured paper .
3. Note that adverbs appear before verbs, not after them.
4. Note that the adverb form of a descriptor also appears before adjectives.
5. Teach these concepts and make up other sentences with them: I quickly walked home.  I happily ate the hamburger. The beautifully big horse ran across the field.

3. Do this again with the next strip.
4. Do it two more times until you have all four sentences sorted and glued in the correct order.

2. The sky, ______________________________ , is clear.
( and high blue pale )

3. The autumn rains, __________________________ , have not
yet started.
( stormy cold and dark )

Now fill in the blanks for each sentence, supplying the words that belong around each appositive phrase.

1. ___________________ , a time for turkey and pumpkin pie,
_________________________ .
( here Thanksgiving will be soon )

2. ____________________ , a time for dressing up and collecting
candy, ______________________ .
( arrive will of Halloween month at end the Then the )

Finally, write your own sentence. Make sure it has an appositive (a phrase giving more details about the word preceding it. Make sure the appositive is surrounded by commas.)
