Organizing Homework

 Think you don’t have homework tonight?

I. Check the guidelines for your grade level.

It is often suggested that you complete 10 minutes of homework for every grade you are in school.  So, if you are in grade 8, you should expect 80 minutes of homework per week day. In addition, it is wise to read for at least 30 minutes to maintain and improve your skills.

II. Check this list as you complete your work.

A. English

  • 1. Revise this week’s assignments until they are of excellent quality.  ____
  • 2. Organize your binder or duotang so that all assignments are neatly filed. ______
  • 3. Spend 10 minutes reviewing your notes on grammar and punctuation in order to memorize the rules and be prepared for tests. ______
  • 4. Read your class novel.  _______
  • 5. Spend 10 minutes doing some research about the setting of your class novel. ____
  • 6. Spend 30 minutes reading books to be recorded in your Independent Reading Duotang and writing book responses. ________

B. Science

  • 1. Revise this week’s assignments until they are of excellent quality.  ____
  • 2. Organize your binder or duotang so that all assignments are neatly filed. ______
  • 3. Spend 10 minutes studying science facts to put them in into your memory bank. _____
  • 4. Spend 15 minutes doing research about topics being studied in class. _____

C. Art

  • 1. Spend at least 15 minutes working on your current art assignment. _____
  • 2. Spend at least 15 minutes drawing or colouring a picture of your choice. ______

D. Math

  • 1. Neatly finish your assignments, showing all your work.  ____
  • 2. Organize your binder or duotang so that all assignments are neatly filed. ______
  • 3. Spend 10 minutes reviewing math concepts to memorize the rules, practise the skills, and be prepared for tests. ______

E. Social Studies

  • 1. Revise this week’s assignments until they are of excellent quality.  ____
  • 2. Organize your binder or duotang so that all assignments are neatly filed. ______
  • 3. Spend 10 minutes reviewing  concepts to memorize the information and be prepared for tests. ______
  • 4. Spend at least 20 minutes working on any assigned projects. _____
  • 5. Spend 15 minutes doing extra reading about topics being studied in class. _____

F. French

  • 1. Revise this week’s assignments until they are of excellent quality.  ____
  • 2. Organize your binder or duotang so that all assignments are neatly filed. ______
  • 3. Spend 10 minutes memorizing words and phrases. ______
