List Poems

A poem can be a list…

of verbs…

Jet Planes
Rumbling,
rolling,
climbing,
flying,
soaring,
gliding,
wobbling,
diving,
crashing,
bursting into flames.

(Quinton)

of similes or metaphors…

Earth
An orb in the blackness
Of outer space

Like a lone spider
In the dead of night

Like an old, abandoned house
at the top of a hill

Like a small flashlight
With a bulb shining so bright

Fantastical creatures
Walk on breathtaking cliffs
On this stunning planet called
Earth.

(Jonathan)

Orange
Bright orange is sharp,
Like tangy, sour oranges.
Pale orange is crunchy,
Like a crisp crunchable carrot.
Dark orange is rich,
Like smooth, orange dark chocolate.
Or at an ice cream shop,
Cool orange fills the buckets of ice cream. (Jonathan)

Red
Deep red is inviting
Like the sweet smell of roses,
Like a new day has arrived,
Like a bold new statement.
Rose red is sweet
Like a singing spring day,
Like a soft plush blanket,
Like bold bright flowers dancing in the wind. (Luisa)

Blue
Blue is calming
Like waves smoothly rolling onto shore.
Light blue is peaceful
Like lavender.
Dark blue tastes strong
Like sour candy.
And in the clear blue sky,
Big fluffy clouds invade the sky
Like snow covering the ground. (Megan)

Blue
Navy blue is quiet
Like deep, still oceans.
Light blue is playful
Like the cold winter winds.
Faded blue is calm
Like delicate clouds drifting in the sky.
Bright blue screams
Like a river rushing by. (
Yasmine)
